Making yourself a Better Writer.
1. Research
Watch YouTube videos, read books, you research, you *will* improve. Good
listen to podcasts... anything helps. If
topics to research include:
- writing style
- story structures
- character conflict and development
- tropes and cliches
- worldbuilding
- subplots
2. Practice
This one might be obvious, but practice makes progress. Write fanfiction or poetry or short stories or novels or anything you want. Don't put pressure on yourself for perfection. The more you work at it, the better you will get. Experiment with style, genre, and plot!
3. Study books
Lots of people say that you need to read more to be a better writer. This may be true, but you need to truly study the books you're reading. Look at writing style, the structure of the story, plot, the characters and their conflicts and relationships. Observe.
4. Write down your dreams.
While not all of your dreams will be million dollar ideas, they can be very strange, and show the true extent of your imagination. It's a good way to get inspiration and look at all the possibilities. They also teach you to look for ideas in everything.
5. Research mentioned topics.
If you are writing about something you have no experience with, like chronic illness or even taxes, do your research. If you're going to write about certain topics or ideas, write them right. Talk to people, look online, read books...
6. Verbs and vocabulary.
Expand your vocabulary to make your writing smoother. I'm not saying your book should be pages of thesaurus vomit, but words are how you're telling your story. Learn more of them. And remember, powerful verbs can truly enhance your writing. Use them.
